Welcome to The Neutral Wire.
It’s far from a secret, but for those that don’t know, the electrical industry in the UK is a live one. In case you’ve been living and working under a rock (I don’t blame you), let me give you the run down.
Now, I know what you are thinking.. A nearly 150 year old industry in the UK should have its head screwed on and be on a clear trajectory as we enter what should be a golden age of renewable technology.
Instead it feels like the head went to the pub and is arguing with the hand over which pint tastes better.
Across the board – Electricians, Engineers, Trainers, Manufacturers, Duty Holders and Consumers – everyone seems to be on the receiving end of the same thing: inconsistency, filtered down through various profit turning bodies who do not exactly all sing from the same hymn sheet.

As we approach the halfway line for 2026, training routes are debated but rarely properly unpacked.
Highly experienced people have been sidelined and deemed “not fit for purpose”.
Products enter the market with a case use that contradicts guidance and regulations. [Ad space available here]
There is division among certification bodies over what is right and what is wrong.
A growing demand from low carbon technology on an ageing grid? Get your head back in the sand!
The UK is pushing towards a renewable future – While arguing over product safety, training standards and who is actually qualified to do the work.
Large parts of the workforce feel disappointed, disillusioned and dejected.
